Sticky Date Banana Bread Oatmeal – Ayurvedic & High-Fiber Breakfast

I made the most delicious oatmeal today! I was baking banana bread, and when I tasted the batter, I just wanted to eat it all right away. So I thought: Why not turn my oatmeal breakfast into a banana bread batter? And that’s exactly what I did – trust me, this is comfort food at its best!

Ingredients

  • 60-80 g oats

  • Water (as needed for cooking)

  • ½ tsp cinnamon

  • ½ tsp cardamom

  • Pinch of black pepper

  • ¼ tsp turmeric

  • Pinch of cloves & nutmeg

  • 1 tsp maple syrup

  • 1 ripe banana (halved)

  • 2 Medjool dates

  • 1 tsp chia seeds

  • Handful of nuts & seeds (per dosha, see below)

  • 1 tbsp (room temperature) quark (for Pitta balance)

  • 1 tsp almond butter (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Cook the oatmeal: Simmer the oats in water until soft and creamy. Add cinnamon, cardamom, black pepper, turmeric, cloves, nutmeg, and maple syrup. Let it cook gently.

  2. Steam banana & nuts: In a separate pan, steam half of the banana in a small amount of water. Add chia seeds, nuts, and seeds (based on your dosha or menstrual cycle). Let it simmer for 5 minutes, then mix it into your oatmeal.

  3. Make it sticky: In the same pan, stew the other half of the banana with the Medjool dates until they turn soft and sticky.

  4. Combine & serve: Mix the caramelized banana and dates into your oatmeal, stir in a spoonful of quark (optional), and top it off with almond butter.

The result? A warm, cozy, and naturally sweet bowl of oatmeal that tastes just like fresh banana bread – but for breakfast! 😍

Ayurvedic Adjustments per Dosha

For Vata (dry, cold, light, restless)

  • Nuts & seeds: Almonds, walnuts, sesame seeds

  • Extras: Add a splash of warm almond milk for extra creaminess

  • Quark? Swap for a spoonful of warm tahini or a drizzle of ghee

For Pitta (hot, sharp, intense, fiery)

  • Nuts & seeds: Pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, coconut flakes

  • Extras: Use coconut water instead of regular water for a cooling effect

  • Quark? Yes! A spoonful of unsweetened quark helps balance excess heat

For Kapha (heavy, cold, slow, moist)

  • Nuts & seeds: Hazelnuts, pistachios, flaxseeds

  • Extras: Add a pinch of cayenne pepper or ginger powder for extra warmth

  • Quark? Better to skip – try a drizzle of warm honey instead

This sticky date banana bread oatmeal is a total game-changer for breakfast. It’s the perfect start to your day – nourishing, warming, naturally sweet, and packed with fiber! 😍 🍌
